Ah, summertime. No school, no homework, fireworks, you get to sleep in and go swimming, anything you want... unless you have to go to summer camp. (Ugh!) But what if you can go to a camp where there are NO RULES?? Welcome to Camp Nowhere! A place where kids can do whatever they want, whenever they want, 24/7. Did I mention that there is no adult supervision? A perfect movie to start the family's summer vacation. Starring Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Jonathan Jackson (Nashville), M. Emmet Walsh, and Andrew Keegan.
Summer is here once again. But that's bad news for Morris "Mud" Himmel (Jackson). Every summer, his parents sends him to a boring computer camp. His friends have a similar problem as him. Their parents are drafting them to other lame summer camps too. Drama camp, military camp, weight loss camp, wanna hear more? Didn't think so. But, Mud has a perfect idea: what if they use their parents' money to make their own camp? So, Mud and his friends decide to blackmail an ex-drama teacher, Dennis Van Welker (Christopher Lloyd), into helping make their idea come to life. So, by tricking their parents into sending them into this camp that is absolutely perfect, there are no visiting days. Now, Mud and his friends prepare to have the best summer ever in a camp they like to call, Camp Nowhere. They do stuff like doing things their parents wouldn't allow them to do, such as doing daredevil like stunts, playing with firecrackers on the 4th of July, eating all the junk food you want, even wearing the same underwear for 3 weeks! The only question is, will their parents find out?
Without any doubt, the perfect movie to watch with your family during your summer vacation. This film rocks! The storyline is pure genius: what if there's a summer camp kids can go to where they can do whatever they want? Think about it. A parent-free paradise where kids could have the time of their lives without any parents nagging them. Sounds like an awesome party. I think this is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I especially love the part when Christopher Lloyd tries to distract Thomas F. Wilson (Back to the Future) while going in the car wash, literally. I mean, he almost kills himself going into the car wash while not being protected in a car! LOL!! Kids, don't try that at home. Perfect, absolutely perfect. Thumbs up.
Parents Guide: Not much sexual stuff in the movie, just some girls in bikinis. There is some profanity in the film, a few hells and damns here and there. There is one scene where the kids try to buy some beer at a store, which Dennis helped them get away with it. In the 4th of July sequence, the kids fool around with firecrackers and other fire explosives.
Did You Know?: The theme song played in the opening and closing credits is "Everything Gets Twisted" performed by Natasha's Ghost. Here's a link to the song: Camp Nowhere Theme Song
There was a scene shown in early trailers for the film where the kids make omelets. One of the kids make a "popcorn omelet" which grows into a huge ball and explodes, causing the kids to fly out the window. It is unknown if the scene still exists or not.
